✨POV✨: You're in the heat of the moment. You're feeling a flurry of emotions and feel lost. There's so much to do, but you just can't get out of your head. What to do?

We've all been there, right? When you're dealing with so much, you wish there were a way to quiet your mind and get back to living your life at some point in your life.
Dealing with mental health issues and depression especially can be very challenging. At times it feels like there is no way forward. The world is moving so much, and we're struggling to catch up because our minds are stumped with thoughts and emotions that either slow or stop us from growing.
And as when there's a tear, a stitch is needed; when there's a problem, we need a solution. A way to heal, make things easier and grow. And finding the right stitch is another challenge - where do we begin, and how do we treat our wounds.

From surviving to thriving 🌻

When we don’t know the way forward, we get stuck in survival mode. Practicing primary health care like eating, sleeping, drinking water, and bathing becomes our main energy expenditure.
But we are beautiful and unique human beings who have so much to offer this world - so much to learn, explore and achieve. But being stuck in survival mode keeps us from thriving and blooming.
The one-stop solution to mental health issues and depression is therapy, the stitch we need.
Therapy helps us navigate these difficult emotions, thoughts, and experiences. It allows us to use our challenges as stepping stones to walk on the journey of unlocking and meeting our full potential.

Therapy comes in many shapes and sizes to suit our preferences and needs. One new addition to the existing conventional treatments is the mini therapy developed by being.

Who is being? 🌺

being (yes, in smaller case deliberately) is mental health movement working to make therapy and support for mental health more accessible.
We are a team of driven mental health professionals who research, design, develop, test, and curate mini-therapies to help all of us deal with uncomfortable emotions when we need the support the most.

What are mini-therapies? 🤳🏼

Mini-therapies are bite-sized therapy sessions that are accessible through our phones.
Imagine feeling anxious right now and not knowing how to manage it. You're in school and have an important presentation in the next hour. How can you cope? You can do a mini-therapy specially designed to calm your mind and free yourself from the clutches of anxiety. You take out 10-15 minutes, plug in your earphones, and voila, you're processing your emotions healthily and constructively through your phone screen.
This is one such situation when we need support and can't wait until our next therapy session. But there are so many such situations in each of our lives when we need that gentle voice guiding us to a better state of mind.

And mini-therapies have been designed to help us in each of these situations. Here are examples of a few conditions that we may encounter in our day-to-day lives:
  1. I just want to stop worrying so much all the time
  1. I feel like everything is a mess
  1. I want to pay attention to my negative self-talk
  1. I want to untangle the chaos in my mind
  1. I see my anxiety taking hold of me
  1. I want to let go of what I 'should be' and 'just be'
  1. I want to lift my mood up
  1. I can't find my motivation to work
  1. I am unable to accept the way the pandemic has changed my life
  1. I am alone most of the time, and it doesn't feel very good

How can I find the mini-therapy that I need? 🔎

How you can use mini-therapies to beat depression ❤️‍🩹

Depression can be an overwhelming experience in which feeling lost and beaten is a trademark. It can be difficult to make sense of thoughts and emotions when we're in such a space. And to make healthy decisions. Especially when we’re in the eye of the storm or the heat of the moment - on our more challenging days.
And the feelings and thoughts we have then can have a lasting impact on us if we don’t constructively deal with them. And mini-therapies are an opportunity to do just that.
I see my anxiety taking hold of me? I take back control from it before I can spiral.
And don’t just take our word; mental health is a very subjective part of us. We need to explore and find what works for us.

Wrapping Up 🌯

For the cherry on the top? Mini-therapy can help us even as we are in conventional or other forms of therapy.
Mini-therapies are for us when we need and want support the most - before an exam or when we’re going to sleep or for anxiety in the morning or to relax during the afternoon. This healing journey is at our own pace and on our terms. Aaaaand, you can access the app without spending a penny until June 2022.

Note on Mental Health Disorders 🚩

Depression (aka clinical depression) is a mental illness that can be of two different types - mild depression (aka persistent depressive disorder) and major depression (aka severe depression or major depressive disorder).
Common depression symptoms include prolonged depressed mood, low self-esteem, mood swings, loss of interest, and having trouble focusing. Other physical symptoms include sleep problems, weight gain, excessive sleeping, or difficulty concentrating.
Depression is also often accompanied by a mood disorder or other mental disorders such as seasonal affective disorder, bipolar disorder, or premenstrual dysphoric disorder. If you have such symptoms of depression or thoughts of self-harm, please use the national suicide prevention lifeline or contact a mental health professional to seek treatment options.
Antidepressant medications may be prescribed in the case of severe symptoms, in combination with a form of therapy such as interpersonal therapy.
